Great color, and most importantly, it hasn’t been ruined with torque thrusts. Muscle car guys: what year is this and what motor is in it if it’s real?

Looks like a 1972 and it probably has the 396 in it the 454 had a larger cowl induction hood I believe.

The later SS’s could have had a 400, 454, or 350

Cool, thanks! I know almost nothing about American cars, trying to fix that

This is why muscle cars are so confusing. Someone else just said probably not a 454 and most likely a 396!?

I used to be a big bow tie guy. I loved the late 60's and early 70's Chevrolet lineup.

It’s funny, muscle cars were one of my irrational teenage disklikes back in the day, but now I’m into pretty much all of them.

It’s actually a 1971. The turn signals are two pieces. In 1972, they were a single piece. As for engines, I’m guessing it’s a 350. Could be a 454, but I doubt it.

The 1970 models were 454 or 396 only 71 and up SS was a trim package that could be ordered with any thing but the base 307 engine.

1971 automatic. Not real, or at least a respray. I’d guess that the color is Lemans Blue. Motor could be anything.

I was going to say, it’s definitely a 71, the front turn signals are two clears. My dad has one that is going through restoration right now. He brought me home from the hospital in a 72 with the one piece amber turn signals up front.

1971 (I have a 71) - I don’t think that’s a factory color so it’s probably been fully redone. Engine would hopefully be a 454 (if you’re building an SS clone why not go all the way) but it could be anything - if it were a factory SS it could be most any of the factory options 350+ up to an including the (big block) 454.

Aha! I’ve never been able to spot the differences between a 71 and 72 easily. Now I know! And my money is on a tree fiddy, too.

My cynical side wants to assume it’s a 350 if its a clone but yes a 454 would be epic!
